about
The Naarm/Melbourne five-piece have been traversing a relentless local circuit since late 2021 refining their live performances, an incorporation of experimental linear movements, danceable art-pop/post-punk and unfiltered theatrics which have attracted them praise and admiration within their local music community and led to supporting the likes of Dr. Sure’s Unusual Practice, Romero & Private Function.
Encompassing varied sonic backgrounds from punk to jazz, and influenced by queer rave culture, their current members: Athina Uh Oh, Adam Markmann, Dom Willmott, Eloise Murphy-Hill and Myka Wallace, work to creatively merge these worlds together to birth a unique sound which mirrors the ethos of New York’s No-Wave revolution (James Chance and The Contortions, Lizzy Mercier Descloux, Delta 5).
Their debut single Inner Norm, takes a tongue-in-cheek, self-deprecating look at Naarm/Melbourne’s Inner North, observing how over time the self-identified ‘alternative’ residents begin to morph into what many northern resident’s proclaim as ‘normies’/normalcy.
The song’s sonic identity sits comfortably between the garage and the dance floor, with relentlessly grooving rhythms setting a bed for angular guitar stabs and noisy synthesisers, all brought home by the energetic vocal melodies of front woman Athina Uh Oh.
